DESCRIPTION
After the new subclass update, Void 3.0, released with the Witch Queen expansion of Destiny 2, I had one thought on my mind. "I want to BE Captain America". The new Shield Throw melee available for Titans allows for players to begin to lean into this fantasy but there are still things holding them back. With this set of Exotic Gauntlets, I wanted to change that.

With the release of the Witch Queen expansion in Destiny 2, came the first of 3 announced subclass updates, Void 3.0. In their void 3.0 update, Titans got access to a new powered melee ability, the Shield Throw. This melee allows players to embrace their inner Captain America and defeat the enemies of the Last City by throwing their shield like a frisbee to disintegrate them with the light.
This new ability is just one of a variety available to players. It quickly became a favorite of mine but it still left me wanting, specifically, wanting to use it more. I did not just want to be like Captain America, I wanted to BE him.
I quickly got to work designing a new exotic armor piece for Titans that would allow them to use their shield more often. This proved difficult as such an exotic has to work within the existing ability cooldown system without breaking it. Ultimately, I ended up with two possible ways that this armor piece could allow Titans to throw more shields. The first was to have the shield return to the player after they throw it, giving the player their full melee ability charge back. The second was to return a significant amount of melee energy when players damage enemies with their shield throw melee. I couldn't decide on which I liked better so I decided to prototype them both.
